Sermorelin is a growth-hormone-releasing hormone (GHRH) analog with over 30 years of clinical history. Unlike synthetic HGH, it stimulates your own pituitary gland to produce growth hormone naturally. The evidence supports its use in diagnosed GH deficiency. Its role in healthy aging and longevity optimization is plausible but not yet proven by large trials.

What it is

Sermorelin is a synthetic version of the first 29 amino acids of growth-hormone-releasing hormone (GHRH) — the signal your brain uses to tell the pituitary gland to produce growth hormone. Unlike injecting synthetic HGH directly, sermorelin works through your body's own feedback system: it stimulates production rather than replacing it, which means your pituitary maintains its natural regulation.

Why people are interested

Growth hormone production declines steadily after age 30 — roughly 14% per decade. This decline correlates with loss of lean muscle mass, increased body fat, reduced bone density, poorer sleep quality, and slower recovery. Sermorelin offers a way to support the body's own production rather than overriding it with synthetic HGH, which carries more significant side-effect risks.

The optimal dose and duration for healthy aging versus diagnosed deficiency. Whether the body-composition improvements translate to meaningful long-term health outcomes. How sermorelin compares to newer peptide alternatives (ipamorelin, CJC-1295) in head-to-head trials — those comparisons largely don't exist yet.

Who should be careful

Generally well-tolerated. Common side effects include injection-site reactions, headache, flushing, and dizziness. Contraindicated in active malignancy — growth hormone can fuel tumor growth. Not appropriate for anyone with active cancer, pituitary tumors, or conditions sensitive to GH stimulation. Requires clinician supervision and monitoring of IGF-1 levels.
